The Po and the Cause of Illness
Posted December 5th, 2008 by allen_stovallThe Po, is our subconscious, what psychoanalists have called "that which lives us". We believe that we control our lives, our destiny. Yet, our conscious mind only controls motor functions. It is the subconscious, the Po, that lives us. If the subconscious desires sympathy, attention, love, it uses the body to fulfill its needs. Therefore the interpretation of illness is tanamount to the art and cultivation of the healer. Instead of fighting with the disease, which is manifest for a reason, it becomes our ally. Illness is a communication to others.

Ancient times refer to the very beginning or the most remote stage of Chinese history before written words were in use, and medieval times refers to the period of history immediately following ancient times. True energy (zhen qi) is also called original energy (yuan qi).
Regulation of Spirit in Harmony with the Four Seasons
Posted November 30th, 2008 by allen_stovallThe patterns of change in the four seasons are, namely, warm spring, hot summer, cool autumn, and cold winter. In order to adjust to such change in favor of health, it is necessary and desirable to nourish Yang in spring and summer and to nourish Yi in autumn and winter. Spirit is internal, change in the four seasons is external.
"Restore spirit as the central importance in the healing process. The body obeys that which the spirit wishes. The spirit is the primary object of the healers concern."
